RALEIGH 2010 PREVIEW

Written By Jan Begemann | Date 2009-07-07

This week I'm attending the Raleigh Elite sample bike assembly 2010. And one of the most exciting new bikes to me is the all new RM LTD with a totally new carbon frame and the new Sram XX groupset including the SID XX fork with hydraulic remote lockout and carbon steerer tube. Couldn't find a scale yet, but the weight should also drop again as the frame will be under 1100g and the XX groupset with double chainring will quite a bit lighter than the current Shimano XTR.

RALEIGH TRAIL RANGE 2010

Written By Jan Begemann | Date 2009-07-02

This week I'm attending the Raleigh Trail Series sample bike production in China. And I must say I'm really impressed with the guys here this time. Last year the sample production was real chaos, the assembly was terrible and lots of parts were missing or wrong. This year it is nearly boring, because nearly everything is correct and every time I'm asking for a little "last minute change" the answer is: No Problem!

OK, a few little mistakes like a wrong decal colour on one of the bikes (now the stickers are pink instead of red, and it's not a girl's bike). But if it wasn't like that there would be no reason for me to make the trip.

In general the 2010 Raleigh Trail range will be very similar to what we have in 2009. The only really new bikes are 2 suspension bikes based on the Namib and Canyon hardtails.

The cheaper one will be the Canyon FS with 100mm travel, a RST Omega TnL fork with hydraulic damping and lockout and a X-Fusion rear shock with custom setup specifically for this frame. I'm very sure Raleigh will be the first one ever putting the effort into a custom shock setup on this price level, but the standard setup shocks I tried on the prototype frame all didn't work well, and X-Fusion was happy to change the change the shock setup now matching the leverage ratio of the frame.

Here is a first picture of the bike:

The rear shock link to the top tube has been copied from the Merida 96.
