Wernervdmerwe Posted July 9, 2009 Posted July 9, 2009 I am thinking of upgrading my crank in a couple of months, but I am not sure as to which one will make the better choice. I heard that the Deus blades lasts a lot longer and are cheaper to replace - but could not substantiate that.
Bike Mob Posted July 9, 2009 Posted July 9, 2009 They have the same BCD. So use the cheaper blades on either crank. I have had both. Liked both. Still have the XT.
Aquatic Posted July 9, 2009 Posted July 9, 2009 What BB you gona use?According to reviews the xt bb seems superior. And You going to have less hassles for chainrings etc.,as shimano is readily available
droo Posted July 9, 2009 Posted July 9, 2009 SLX all the way. Only 40 grams heavier than XT, and stiffer by all accounts. And cheaper. Deus blades cost a bomb, go have a look on CRC...

Maybe it is a personal thing, but would prefer XT above SLX , but I can't give you a good reason apart from the hierarchy choice.
Borriz Posted July 9, 2009 Posted July 9, 2009 I spoke to Paul Cordes some year ago and he commented that FSA has the strongest blades, but weak BB - for some reason. So I would recommend FSA if you can and then alternative BB. I want Chris King as it has 5 year warranty attach - mmmmmm. Bit of doh up front but if a BB last you less than a year you'll break even after year 3 as BB are about R750 now a days
MoreTrails Posted July 9, 2009 Posted July 9, 2009 Yeah, tough choice... I'm with Droo on the new SLX. Lines look cleaner too, and you options like triple rings or double and bash. Shimano BB's do last, I have one thats almost 10years old and still silky smooth. Also have a FSA crankset that is still going strong after more than 5 years. On its second BB though, Race Face BB gave up quite quickly. They creak too....
Bike Mob Posted July 9, 2009 Posted July 9, 2009 I have truvativ Rings, full set for under 900 have lasted well.
