So after much procrastination and too much training i ended up having to find something else to do with my spare time!!!!

with a little bit of help from a few fellow hubbers and my always growing spares box i decided to build up a single speed HT

in walks Summit cyces with a frame that has had some crack pot tighten a BB cup into the frame so that only he knows how to loosen it!!!

after a few months of lying around i decide to start this project and so i look in my spares box and find

Frame = Marin Palisades Trail (AKA:Mario){Thanks summit}

Wheels = Zak 19 rims DT double butted spokes laced onto a shimano rear hub and a scott oem front hub

saddle = Selle italia Ferrari (because of the red inserts)

Crankset = Shimano Deore Black

Chainring = Shimano deore 44tooth (yes i am stupid!!!!)

Chain tensioner = Shimano deore rapid rise derailer with cut cage

sprocket = shimano 19 tooth

sprocket spacers = custom carbon spacer made from very reliable carbon tubes from reputable bike manufacturer smiley36.gif

Brakes = Hayes 9 with goodridge hoses (thanks oertel!!!)

Disk rotors = Shimano 6 bolt steel

headset = WTB momentum comp st sealed unit

headset spacers = Black Alu*

Grips = aerozine red lock on's

Fork = Manitou Axel coil with lockout

Nice...but try putting a 32t up front. I find a 32t - 15t to be the best. Also play around with gears and chain lenght and try to get rid of that rear der. I tried a few chains untill I found one that works perfectely with my desired ratio.

Thanks for the input i tried with a 32 but i spun out quite easily on my ride at groenkloof last weekend

the reason for the derailer is so that i can mix and match sprockets according to the terrain

Thanks David

and cool thanks Mud dee i will do some experimenting, also do you have a site that can do gear ratio calculations i have never understood how to do it by reading the formulas...

Hi Turtlek,

You have a cool setup there!! I am a very passionate singlespeeder as well.   PM me your email adress and I'll send you my gear calculator I made in excel, it takes your wheel diameter and tyre size(2.0,2.1,2.3  etc) into account, to get the distance forward per pedal stroke.

Enjoy your bike, hope to see you at crater cruise! Stephan2009-08-03 09:14:25
