Bru i have no idea of the eye to eye or stroke or what - havent looked at it yet - but Duxbury had a look yesterday and suggested a 275lbs spring

It's a 3.5 inch stroke. And same Eye to Eye as a makulu if I'm not mistaken

hahaha! the stroke is more critical than the eye-to-eye (in the case of ordering springs)... but chances are if it's a 267 ETE, then it has a 3.5" stroke.

But don't worry, I got this from the interweb (Fanatik Bike)

" The Wilson utilizes a custom-valved Cane Creek Double Barrel 10.5"x3.5" rear shock"... so yeah, 267 ETE and 3.5" stroke... as I suspected.

Ti Springs doesn't have any of those on the shelf, but they do list it on pre-order, if you can wait until Jan for delivery. And at under R1700 it is still a bargain. So go for the 275 x 3.5" with 36.5mm I.D.

Also, here's a good site to do your spring rate calcs...

Just put in your weight.

Stroke will be 3.5"

Travel will be 8.5" (216mm on a Wilson)

and choose your "plushness" (I know you KZN boys like 70% sag  )

The bottom results will be according to linkage and shock valving types.

Hope that helps!

Oh, and I have a collection of 3.5" springs (all steel though) that you're welcome to try out for feel before busting bucks on Ti. I have 200lb, 250lb, 300lb, and 350lb. (The Makulu's with CCDB, and Fox RC4's use the same size springs).

Spring rate Calcs??? dude that is far too technical for me - I just get on and ride ...

Make the bike light - and then ride it

Oh and with regards to Sag ... ummm maybe the rest of KZN run epic sag ... but i tend to stick to 20% - I prefer a stiff responsive ride rather than a water bed

ok so i did that thing about the spring rates and it said 212 for the CCDB

Yeah... thought it might come out less than 275lb. But that 212lb is a guideline. According ot the Calc I should use a 300lb to get 28% sag on my Makulu (Fox RC4), but I find a 325-350lb to feel a lot better.

What spring did the shock come with? (probably a 200lb)

CCDB is the knee's of a bee.

I think i'll do the base tune as per the CC website ... then give it a ride once i have all the parts ... then make a decision on the spring.

Not keen to fork out R1500 and it be too soft or something

yeah that would be awesome thanks

The CC website says i should run a 225 for my weight - but wow that sounds light!

Ja but those sites always recommenced you run your stuff as soft as a marshmallow.

Thats what im worried about - and also with our tracks being flatter than a pancake and having zero roots ... I'm tending towards the stiffer end of the spectrum to compensate for the pedal-fest zones

Yeah, I think UncleRico was running a 225/250 on his Makulu. My Mak came with a 200lb...

I was like "what is this... a spring for anorexics!"
