I'm a newbie to MTB cycling and done a few races. Im always checking out other bikes to see whats the latest.(Not good for my walletWink) One thing that really caught my attention is the loud sound of some hubs when free wheeling. (meaning that I like itThumbs%20Up). After some asking around i found out that they are Hope and Chris King's etc.

My question(s) is: Will I be able to fit them (Hope 2) on my current wheels and at what cost? I currently have 26" WTB Speed discs XC's with XT hubs.

Or what other options do I have?

PS. I know a bit about bikes but not very technical! So please talk s-l-o-w-l-y!

Thanks guys!

You'll have to rebuild the wheels, and will need new spokes to do so. So if you want to keep your old rims, it's going to cost a packet. Budget on R600 a wheel for a good build, excluding parts. It may come in a little cheaper, but prepare for the worst.

Your cheapest option will be a new wheelset from CRC. Do a site search for 'hope hoops' and spec it from there. A good build IMO would be pro II hubs and DT double butted spokes. Rim choice is subjective and depends on whether you ride XC, trails, downhill etc, and budget. XC I'd go for Mavic 717 or ZTR Olympic, and for trails Halos or ZTR Flow. Check MTBR for reviews.

Thanks for the info Droo. Well I thought it would be an easy job, but apparenly not! (rude awakeningShocked!!!) ... and my money's not that long to buy new wheels right now!

Well than I just have to ride my bike till the wheels come off, ... literally!! I guess that will be a better reason to upgrade!

You like the sound when they're freewheeling? In my book thats no reason to get new hubs... smiley3.gif

I normally prefer to upgrade when something brakes, but I guess it's a good excuse. Guess the Hope hubs do sound THAT awesome!

all i want is it to make KRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR!. Equals the sound a Harley makes!Smile

As kisd we simply stuck a piece of cardboard in the spokes with a couple of pegs....best Krrrrrrrrrrrr sound all around...

And will cost you nothing!!

That KRRRRRRRRR sound is a nice weapon to put the guy in front of you on the single track under pressure to allow you to come past! Wink
