Hi my byike skips gears when I backpedal,I have a single chainring up front and 8 speed in the rear with an external BB,but the chain only skips in 1st,2nd and 3rd all the other gears are fine. Please help as this is very anoying. When the bike is in 8th the chain is lined up perfectly with the front chainring but when in 1st gear it is quite skew.Yes it is an 8 speed chain.

When you pedal forwards, the idler pulley on your derailleur is what keeps the chain on the selected sprocket. When you pedal backwards, the chainline will guide it towards the middle of the cassette. The only thing you can do is to make sure the chainline's straight (middle cog on the cassette lines up with the chainring), and not pedal backwards.
