That is really irritating to hear. Yet another special tool required. It stinks. "Progress" never smells good.
Typical!! like cellular batteries and chargers.........!!

Not Correct in my Opinion.

I have used Campagnolo for the last 7 years, my original BBB campag cassette tool works with my 10sp and 11sp cassette lockring.

Just checked, my BBB, Park Tool and Campag Cassette Tool all fit both 10sp and 11sp.

Makes sense. I just did a search and no where could I find anyone mentioning a different lockring tool for 11 speed. The way cyclists bitch and moan on forums the world over it would have been a major issue if it was the case.

I was standing next to the bike smith guy when he removed the 10spd and 11spd cassette and he had to use a slightly smaller tool. The difference is so small the you wouldn't be able to tell if its a 9/10 or 11 speed tool with the eye. Its like 1mm smaller.

But i think only some of the 11spd's requires a smaller tool, i mean i looked at the lock nut and i couldn't see any reason why they couldn't make the lock nut slot the same size as those used on the 9 and 10spd's

So for me the only conclusion is; some 11spd's are the same size as the 9 and 10's. And some requires a 11speed only lock nut tool.

No rights and wrong answers here; this may just be a 2c worth the next time you buy a new cassette.skaduwee2009-08-27 15:00:06

I think some of these cassette spanners might be cheap imitations. I have a Shimano one which fits perfect on cheaper cassette lock nuts, but does not fit 100% on my DA casstte lock nuts.Ouch
