How do you maintain Hydrolic brakes??

On my way to work this morning I noticed that my brakes weren't stopping as strong as they should.. any advice as to how to maintain the brakes without having to take the bike to the LBS??

Thanks guys, but Mud Dee, I wouldn't even know how to bleed the breaks LOL, will just take it to the lbs so they can show me how

Don't bleed your brakes unless they have air in them. Bleeding them won't make them more powerful, it will only make the lever "take" earlier on in its travel.

 

How did you notice that your brakes weren't working as well as they should? Can you still lock up the rear wheel?

The Hope Disk brake manual lists the following under Regular Maintenance:-

 

Cleaning your brake

Checking for system leaks

Checking the brake pads

 

Under troubleshooting there are various pointers to look for:-

 

No Braking power

Lever goes all the way to the bars

Spongy lever

System leak

Lever is stiff and does not return

 

Please post if any of these are present and then we can take it form there.
