I have a stuck bb in my girlfriends scott scale 40 frame. It's still one of the older bb's, looking to put a LX hollow 2 crank on but can't get the BB out for any money in the world. got the left part out easily wich is just a plastic spacer basicly but can't get the BB itself out...

Thinking of taking it to the lbs.

Any suggestions??

My concern is: what is the LBS going to do?

Unusual problems require unusual remedies. If the LBS says that they will try but take no responsibilty; then I would rather be the one that ends up breaking something myself. I would ask them what their step by step plan of attack is going to be before they start. Before any violent action is suggested regarding hammers: maybe drill it out till you can peel it off the thread wall (requires engineering shop). try some thermal input with a quick weld in the center far from frame and thread to get some expansion and chase with pen lube. Just a suggestion for what its worth.

PS. Are you turning it the correct way i.e. left or right hand threading?? You may find that in trying to take it off you are tightening it further. Not sure on the threading on Scott's but I have a faint suspicion that the right hand side may come off in a clockwise direction??

Make sure you listen to what the Aussie says above...... 1st Aussie I have come across with sense.

On most cartridge BB's with ISO/BCS threading the left side (looking from the top) will have right hand threading,  and the right side will have left hand threading.

I did turn it the right way, have been working on bikes for quite a few years, but thanks. One tends to forget the simple basic stuff sometimes... Big%20smileWink

problem solved....

just used bigger and bigger and yet more bigger tools... enden up with a 600 mm long power bar and gave it a bit of shock therapy with that while putting torque on the power bar.... that bugger just couldn't say no to that!!! LOL

Firstly spray the whole bb with penetrating spray such as winflon or Q 20. Wait half a day and then use the park toot bb nut, not a bb spanner, as the nut have a lot more surface grip. And use a lot of leverage.

[/quote'] Were the threads damaged? What I have found with some bike shops is the use of Loctite on BB's!! Bloody annoying and hugely unecessary!!
