Having problems with my Merida MTB's chain. I recently took my bike for a general service, where they also replaced the casette and chain because they were worn. After I got my bike back I noticed that when I was in 8th gear on the rear, 3rd in the front, and stood up to pedal the chain would fall off the front gear, towards the outside.

So I took the bike back, they replaced the chain, and I got the bike back yesterday - but still the same problem ... Note that on the entire bike the only part that is 'old' is the rear derailleur, which the mechanic said was in good condition ...

Would appreciate any advice ...

Take it back to the bike shop. Explain to them how to simulate the problem and ask them to fix it. They should have sorted it properly during the service therefore you shouldn't pay to have it fixed.

i agree, if its is still not fixed ask the guy nicely to go outside, stand on all fours and cycle a good distance from the dude and cycle right up his rear.

he will walk funny for a while but he will know why.
