I've "crossed" over.......

It looks great. But why would you want to ride what is essentially a road bike (it seems) off road when there is great technology like disc brakes, air shocks etc? (Whilst I know you have both technologies) Is it a cult or a quest to return to the "pure" form of the sport when it was accepted that you rode your only bike on and off road?

Not dissing it, just curious. Are there plans to start cyclo cross races here as it seems like a great spectator sport? Those guys in Europe running through the mud with their bikes on their shoulders are super fit all round athletes.

I race with a rigid fork in my MTB now and then, and yes, it does feel very old school, going back to your roots. The way it used to be before whiz-bang gimmicks. When guys used to race world cup downhills with 2.5" suspension and it was enough.

ok, so here is a thought then, would a cyclocross bike not work better than a dualie for desert dash ?

also if the roads for DD are "normal" dirt roads and nothing technical, could you get away with using slicks to ride ?

If the roads in the DD are normal dirt roads, I would say yes, a cyclo-cross bike would be better suited. I wouldn't however use "slick" tyres but specific "cyclo-cross" tyres as pictured on Rock's bike.

I donno what the other peeps's feel is about this, but I wouldn't take a chance with putting slicks on if you're even riding on "normal" dirt roads.. as it is I've had 4 punctures on tar road with my knobblies Confused

i think the slow one is talking about slicks on an mtb...i reckon it'd be a terrible idea. you'd lose traction if you get out of the saddle on a climb.
