not with 8000 squatters living there coming and going as they please' date=' c'mon...

i stop for NO-ONE!
that's when they grab your bike.

and the last time that happened...

a security guard at fourways crossing tried to be the hero of the day by aprehending the "raving lunatic who goes shopping for a birthday gift for his wife by bike and poses a security risk & danger to all society"

...that arsehole ate pepperspray.

like i said - I STOP FOR NO-ONE![/quote']

And thats the sterling attitude that earns us cyclists a less than sterling reputation...

Pepper spraying a security guard for trying to stop you? Sounds reasonable Confused

Why is it in people's nature to just believe that that the security....were in fact security...that the cyclist WAS wrong and the guard WAS right...

Come on people lets be objective...we do not know the WHOLE story, but that does not mean that the cyclist behavior is automatically wrong..

what threat does a cyclist pose while looking in a window at 4ways crossing (ie. not moving at speed through crowds on the pavement)- no threat.

what threat does a cyclist pose in an open veld while there are literally hundreds of potential hi-jackers and rapists moving freely to and from between the shacks and the road - no threat.

to hell with security guards, they think they have a grasp on why they are there, but they dont.

they're always quick to over-interpret the rule book, and apply it to everyone who vaguely fits the description.

they all struggle with an over-inflated sense of authority and an inability to use judgement for fear of getting in trouble with the "baas".

or perhaps they revel in the fact that they have authority over someone they wouldn't have 20 years ago.

no doubt these clowns were told that no scramblers were to be allowed on that patch of dirt.

conveniently to the guards, this also applies to the white guy on his bicycle because the difference between a white guy on a bicycle and a white guy on a scrambler is so miniscule, they better apply the rule to both incase they get in trouble with the "baas"

With respect to Private Property,a squatter camp in the vicinity does not make tresspassing more legal or less of a crime.

Hmm, I see lots of one sided (yours) emotional rambling and very little fact.

If you are not allowed to be there, regardless of any threat you pose, thats it, they have a right to stop you. If you ignore them, they have a right to use force.

Do yourself a favour and get some facts -  is it private property, if yes you are trespassing, if no find out why, stop with the emotional bulls**t and do something constructive and proactive, or expect to be accosted again.

How can it be private property when here is a squatter camp right down the road?

Stop for random shouting people (even if they are in some kind of uniform) at your own peril.

WOW, being a cyclist seems to be more of a crime than squatting.....

You have all blasted kamikaze and his actions, but at no time did you agree that the squatters is ALSO wrong, that using EXCESSIVE force is ALSO wrong....no just blast the cyclist.....

kamikaze, unfortunately you might have not been 100% right in riding there...but I understand the principle, same as the traffic cops and their numberplate fines====easy target and easy money...

The next comment you will get from someone is that you should find another route....

PS. If the squatters are "ALLOWED" to be there, why not cyclist...If it is private property get rid of the BIG problem FIRST before moving onto ONE lonely cyclist.

Firstly do you know the area coenie?? I dont believe you do, so tell me please how can you comment.?

I know it well, very well actually,.............but I digress.

Who said the "squatters camp" (and I think this term is used rather lightly as we do not have proof they do not have any right to be there - of course you and a few others ASSUME they dont have this right, but hey, you also ASSUME because they are homeless, that they are squatters!!) is on the same property as defined by the muncipal borders Kamikazee was riding, ever heard of property borders coenie??, property boundaries??, obviously not, so let me explain, "its what defines your property from your neighbours"

 - now lets say you own property up to a defined border, next to you is open ground and 200 metres away is a "squatters camp", now you get a few cyclists riding through your garden on a weekend on the pretext that your property is also part of the open ground, I mean theres a squatters camp 200 metres away so nobody can own this property, quite logical thinking..............!!

Anyway, you plan on building there is 12 months and want to clear the area, so you hire a guard to keep trespassers off your property................ get my drift coenie.!

The fact is, you cant just go and ride where you want because you dont pose a threat, or you have done it before, or your mate did it on his bmx, or you heard it was a nice ride.............theres rules and regulations that as a society we live by......................................

Ag what the hell, I am wasting my breath.

Go ride there, have a blast, take your mates as well, just leave us a number where we can call your family to let them know which cell number you are in or which hospital and the time of your surgery.

Porky, read your own post properly...no one here could confirm that he WAS in fact on private property.

My point was that people started blasting kamikaze without having facts. What if it was NOT private property?

What if you ARE allowed there, your comments make out as if he is in the wrong....and then you try and blast me for pointing out that all stories have 3 sides, kamikaze's, theirss and the truth.....

I am just amazed that people always take the motorist side..."find another way to ride" or the security guard "you might be trespassing", or the pedestrian (walking on the wrong side) "Just go around them, you are on a bicycle" etc

When will cyclist stand together, and assume innocence firstly?

btw. You got personal, try and put your personal feelings aside and look at the WHOLE story objectively.

Coenie, Coenie,Coenie, when a guard is posted at an entrance to a property, when they sit in a shelter with the security companies name prominantly displayed, when they wear the regulation security outfit, when there are boards around saying the property is protected by Jambo Security, when three guards try to stop you - I would say theres good reason to believe they are legit, wouldnt you.?

But, be that as it may, my daytime job is a consulting engineer, I work in this area often - I will find out, its not difficult, I deal with the muncipality daily - I am sick of getting the raw end of the stick because some irresponsible cyclists feel its okay to disregard any and all rules and regulations, who feel the laws dont apply to them so to speak.

Well, they do, and the sooner we all start to behave like rational, thinking adults and not lawless lunitics when we go out on a bicycle the sooner we will be accepted in all facets of SA Life.

..........On the other point about been personal, I reread the post and I agree, I was irritated and annoyed, its not an excuse just a fact, but I was wrong and I apologise.
