To make sure that the cassette gets the longest life' date=' replace the chain every 5000km and you can go through 3 chains.[/quote']

I'm interested in finding out how you arrived at that figure. You sure there shouldn't be a few decimal places in that nice round number?

Oh for Pete's sake! The bloody cassette is stuffed. Finished and klaar. Stop speculating about other possible causes.

None so deaf as those who will not hear... I'm quite averse to the sound of my wallet emptying too smiley36.gif

Ja, I realized that a while ago. But try understand that I'm a student with parents who don't pay for any of my cycling. But thanks very much for the advice!

Best I can say is go and work in a bike shop on weekends, you'll get decent discount on parts that way... it's how I managed to keep my bike on the road when I was at school.

I already have a weekend job, but I'm studying medicine, so my monday morning tests kind of kill my weekends anyway. But I have a decent job for the next 3 weeks - hopefully that will pay for my cassette smiley1.gif

If you're short of cash and need new cassettes, tyres and tubes, take up the sport of dumpster diving. Bicycle shops routinely replace cassettes when it is not neccessary and throw away perfectly good ones. You'll find nice tyres and tubes there as well. All my tyres come from there. My tubes I collect en-route on any big race.

Clap So true, love it!

I once raced with a tube which had 27 patches on it. It's total silliness that tubes cost 50 bucks these days!
