Fork installation

I replaced my fork with a new one with the same steerer length, but now I'm left with 1.5 spacers that won't fit.

I can also feel some movement between the fork and headtube and there is some clearense between the fork and bottom of headtube.

Do I just have to "aggresively" force the steerer further through the headtube or what?

Bike: GT Avalanche 1 2008

Fork: Rock Shox Reba Race

Did you transfer and reseat the crown race properly?

(the ring that sits at the base of the steerer tube - it's part of the headset and needs to be moved from the old fork to the new one)

Funny this... I'm having the exact same problem...

But it's more than likely due to me missing something glaring - like not lining the steerer up properly at the point of fastening everything... Haven't spent all that much time on it trying to sort it out either, so will pop something back up here after I've had a proper go at it...

Is the top of the steerer tube 5-10mm below stem height like it should be?

Also, is the bearings fitted the correct way up & down?

As far as I know, everything is correct.

Will have to check with my mtb as it is at a friends house.

Went for a 2h ride on the bike, but everytime I tapped the front brake I could hear the fork move.

Sounds like you didn't pre-load the bearings before you tightened the stem either.
