Hi

I am new to the buying of bicycle parts and equipment from online cycling shops like CRC and Total Cycling.

What I would like to know is are there any costs in the form of duty costs or import tax or any other hidden costs when importing bicycle parts?

If so how much are these costs and how do they work it out?

Another question I have is how long does it take for purchases to arrive?

Thanks

I think there is about 100 threads about it... search for import and there should be a few that come up with it. Basically VAT only on parts (no duties), duties and VAT on clothing and complete bikes.

Calculate VAT @ 15.4% thought, not 14%...

I've found that 15.65% get you closer because the prices on CRC are based on Rand exchange rate(the rate banks pay) and not Rand Buying rate(the rate you pay because the bank "sells" you pounds/dollars/monopoly money)

I'll work with my 15.4%, i'll accept the 0.25% variance on my orders! It's actually normally more because SARS uses their own special exchange rates when it arrives to calculate VAT which always seem to be considerably higher than any quoted rate...
