Hey guys, I need some help from the gurus here!

I have a Ultegra 6600 crankset and when my LBS installed it they put spacers on it(against the shell before the BB screws in)

The problem now is that there is very little spindle sticking out for the non drive side to actually grip on. I know this because I was out of the saddle climbing like a madman when the crankarm came right off!! I checked the inside of the arm and can see its hardly making contact at all.

Should I tell them to take the spacers out or are they supposed to be there?

The shimano site doesnt mention anything about spacers for the 6600 but mentions a single spacer for the 6603(triple)

Im seriously annoyed by this because the crankarm is now a bit scratched due to it hitting the road after it came off. Im going to try take some pics of it all just now to see if that makes any more sense.

Just looked at the manual

I don't think you're supposed to have any spacers then

Wow that was fast! Thanks Flowta, There is one on each side. I need to check where the arm attaches to the BB but there may be another one on that side too making it 3 in total. There is very little for it to attach to though in terms of the spline sticking out.

No worries, take all the spacers off and reinstall BB and crank. Should tighten up correctly.

If not then add one spacer at a time to get it right. But you shouldn't need to.

I took these pics of the BB and the left crank arm. Call me crazy but shouldnt there be teeth inside the crank arm?

Dude, your crankarm that came off is busted!!

The green part is fine, that shouldn't have any teeth. But the yellow part should look the same as the part that didn't make contact with the spindle! So even if you get the spacers out and fit the crankarm correctly, it will probably come off again because it only have half the grip it should have. I say take it back, without fiddling yourself and demand a replacement crank. It's their fault after all.

O ja....plus the edge of the spindle would probably be worn in the same manner than the crank arm, meaning the to parts of the arm and spindle that is not worn, i.e. the parts that didn't have any contact wouldn't "line up/match/seat" when spacers are sorted ou. Thus the not worn part of the spindle will sit/fit onto the worn part of the crank arm, and the not worn part of the crank arm would fit/sit onto the worn part of the spindle = no grip!!!

Hope it make sense? Stern%20Smile

Crank arm still looks usable' date=' just that green & yellow stuff inside it can be a problem..

I agree, it is probably usable, but I would still take it back and INSIST that they replace it especially since it has the "scars" from hitting the tar.

That crank is still perfect, apart from the road rash. The apparent break in the splines is just a ridge of grease.

Why on earth is there so much grease on there? There needn' be any grease there, there aren't any sliding parts there at all. Kick the mechanic's arse for that as well.

Overuled by guys who REALLY do know better!! Thumbs%20Up

But sticking to my guns on:

1. Taking it back and demanding a replacement

        and

2. "Ouch! How's the groin" - it had to hurt - and nobody will make me change my mind Big%20smile
