I would just like to mention the following on this forum. My husband was killed 18  weeks ago. Yesterday, 20 December  2009, We saw Mr Aron Brown, in his Official Medscheme Cycling gear on the N2 (Grootbrak River) WITHOUT HIS HELMET. He was riding with a lady cyclist. What message does that send out Medscheme? I nearly had a heart attack. Still feel that something must be done!!!!

I thought we'd decided to let it go' date=' and let natural selection weed out the stoopid ones? [/quote']

This issue has been the subject of many a warm Hub thread. I often see riders in the Western Cape riding without helmets, rarely in club kit though. Despite the fact that it is the law to wear a helmet, my opinion has always been that it is up to the rider whether to wear a helmet whilst training or social riding. It's a very stupid decision though, as anybody who's broken a helmet in a fall can attest to. You also won't get very far on most club rides if you attempt to ride without a helmet. Riding without a helmet whilst in club kit is sure to convey the wrong message about safety and the law, especially when it's a sponsored pro team. It's a double fault when the sponsor is a major healthcare organisation. If you feel like doing something then perhaps direct your message to the Medscheme Team via www.teammedscheme.co.za .

My point is cycling and safety. Have you seen the motorist response to cyclist recently?  If you did, you would not ask the question. We are blamed for everything on the road, and one incident like Sunday's, riding on a NATIONAL ROAD without a helmet, in peak season ..... That is my point

Thank you for your advice. I posted this because I am currently working on Cycling Safety. My husband was killed the 16 August this year while cycling. (Beeld 18 August 2009/12 November 2009). I want to make cyclist aware of all the possible dangers as well as to educate motorists, due to the fact that cycling is a very fast growing sport and cyclist are increasing on the roads. Don't want any more deaths.

Thanx again for your reply.

Sorry to hear about your loss.

I agree with you. The more people let these tjops know this is socially (and legally) unacceptable, the more chance they will sort themselves out (they're like sheep...) and the better for all cyclists.

Same as with the pigs who litter...
