Based on experience of a good few 1000 notebooks we have purchased over the last 10 years  I agree 100% with this statement.

You wont go wrong buying a Dell.

Did you also purchase a 1000 Lenovo's to enable you to make any proper comparison at all....... or are you just the normal prejudiced Hubber???????

Smile  Good point Mr H.

Actually, the answer is yes we did.  We used Dell for about 10 yrs and then for the last 3 years we have bought Lenovos.  So I am making a direct comparison between Dells & Lenovos Service and support.  I am not commenting on HP's, Siemens or Apples because I have no experience with them in large numbers although my wife uses an HP.

Were the Lenovo's grey or real....... the grey ones made by the Chinese are actually better and have been improved for African conditions. It is all they use on their construction sites in Africa.

never had a lenovo myself so won't comment on that. have had HP and Dell and have had no issues with either of those. i have had the dell get a little (ok, maybe it was more than a little) wet in one of the recent storms (about 3 weeks back) and it is still working 100%. one of the HPs i used to have was in the boot of my car when the navara drove into me and flipped my car - and it worked perfectly after that. so i am willing to vouch that both HP and Dell can take punishement. never had to test the backup service cos i've never had problems.

I tested the backup service of Dell recently and was very impressed. They fixed the problem within hours of it being reported.

thanks Mandibles :-)  (i still hope i never need to test it out for myself) cos this Dell is my personal machine - the HP's were always through work - so it's good to know i made the right choice

Where's a good place to buy Dell laptops (specifically the Workstation ones)? The prices they list on their site are all around 10-20% higher than the few models I've seen at other places.

Also looking at buying a Dell laptop for my mother, please can someone advise me where to find the best price? (Looking at spending R8.5k max - Kalahari.net has Dell laptops in that range)

Thanks!

I would recomend Dell or acer, been working with them for 4 years and had minimal problems and service on dell is the best and acer is good to. I'm willing to supply any hubbers in western cape of pc's and laptops very good prices can maybe arrange sum @ cost

pm me with details and I will send quoteJakes_12010-01-03 08:33:21

I don't know if they've fixed it in the last year or 2, but Dell batteries are the ultimate c%^ (and that's based on an extremely big office all using them!)... the batteries last a few months if you're lucky (this is on the old D620 and D630 ranges, haven't had the new ones for long enough to judge).

I have an Acer for personal use and know a few other ppl with them and they have been absolutely awesome (never needed to test their backup service so can't comment on that). 3 Year's old and the battery still lasts for over 2 hours (compared to less than 2 minutes on my 2 year old Dell!).
