Headset Bearings

I have the same headset, so I can just remove the bearings, go to my LBS and they should have some? The bearings are BBs in a cage, not a sealed type of bearing, is this a problem these days? Should I rather just replaced the who headset with something else?

Take the bearings to your LBS - should be cheap as chips to replace....

The set of bearings in a retainer is cheap, but unless your races are in tip-top condition, rather just replace the headset with a modern one that uses STANDARD (36/45) cartridge bearings. Do not buy anytbing with 45/45 bearings since replacements are very expensive.

Thanks, I will try getting some bearings first. Am a bit skint after having to buy new BB for a pointless plastic thing! I see a good headset is around R4-500. Any recommendations?

Gaint makes some nice, honest-to-goodness ones for far less than that.

 

Otherwise, if you want a fancier option, go for one of the Cane Creek models. At least then you'll aleays get spare bearings, headset races etc etc.

you can buy a complete cane creek headset including sealed bearing for like R600 bucks or for half the price you can get FSA headset with sealed bearings as well. Try Olympic cycles claremont. **** customer service but they have the goods.
