Hey guys, i'm looking at these 2 bikes and was hoping some of you could help with the exact specs coming into SA. For example 2/3 shops say the Merida is coming with a Magura Durin Race fork while others have said that it is coming with a Fox fork. Please can you give me a link to the SA spec links. Thanks.

I am also planning to buy the 96 3000D, and as far as I know it should be coming with the Magura Durin fork. I wasn't even aware that South Africa might be receiving a different spec line-up. Odd.

Are there any of the 2010 bikes in SA yet? I can't find any shop with demo models etc. Please shout if you do find out about the spec!

Peace

I hope that's true... Big%20smile

Anyone know what the complete package 3000D is going for? Should be about 23k, I guess?

You'll have to change your username after that, though... ;)

Anyways, got one - it's got the Magura fork. That's on my alu frame version (HFS 3000 D). The carbon version (Carbon 3000 D) has a Fox fork. (You also add 15K top the price for that version...) Your guestimate is about spot-on.

Here's a link to the bike specs, FWIW:

If you want to look at the carbon one, look around under bikes --> "Ninety Six" on the menu - easy to find.

I will indeed have to change my username Cry Eish.

May I ask where you bought it and what you paid? Or are such questions not allowed? I'd really appreciate it, since I want to know what exactly I should prepare my student budget for. I need to do the calculation in cases of beer as currency! Tongue

I agree with you... Beautiful bike. Hope it survives my 95kg...!

I have heard from a reliable LBS who sell the Merida brand that the 96 bearing / pivot / bush kit is not the most robust and reliable out there.

My last Scott was going strong after 3 1/2 years of abuse with respect to the bearings ... when opened up the bushes were still in good condition.

Also the pro-bike boys/girls are great to deal with if anything does go wrong with the Scott.

RE component spec ... this should only be a partial consideration as these are items that wear out .... the frame is the most important factor, then suspension followed by wheelset... IMHO
