  1. Awesome race once again. Chuffed with a sub 2h30 this year. Weirdest moment of the race, passing the tandems (I suspect there was an altercation of some sort) and the lady on the back decided to vent her anger towards me screaming that "if you're so damn fast you should start earlier".....I was riding VA
  2. Well after your use of sweeping statements and absolutes, how can one argue?
  3. Well done again Marc! You and L had a super strong ride!
  4. Another marathon done and very dusted. Missed my sub4 by 5mins!! dammit As always a great race, but seriously.......................seriously organizers - that singletrack through the burnt veld where we zig zag up and down over dusty bumpy terrain only to emerge 100m down the road where we entered....not cool. Please take that section out, adds no value to the experience. That climb at 65km on the other hand is a BEEAAATCH on tired legs, loved seeing everyone grind up there.
  5. You'll struggle to get rides rides close to the 90rpm, but if you train at high revs you will keep working on the leg speed. On the flipside - don't forget to do low cadence intervals on the IDT as well. The high leg speed training is important, but you also want the strength and muscle memory associated with cadence-riding closer to what you actually do on the road.
  6. Your garmin should exclude zero's when calculating averages to give a representative number. That said, if you do speed work on the IDT don't stress, you will most probably migrate to a natural number on the bike. There is no optimal value, differs between riders, terrain, fatigue etc. 90 is a great number for IDT training, but on the road or trails - it will find you.
  7. Maybe just a suggestion - this year that grassy singletrack winding upwards through the forest on top of the mountain was not great. It was not challenging enough to make us feel we accomplished something, but also not flowing to be enjoyable, it really just sapped time and energy. Rest of the route is just brilliant, see you in January
  8. I've only missed one Barberton race since 2009, so will see you there next year Ben. Have a score to settle with that marathon climb.
  9. First time doing Spring Classic but now a permanent entry on my annual calendar Hard 45km race, but excellent organisation, brilliant route. Legs are still SORE this morning.
  10. No pun intended? "He said he has carried insulin syringes throughout his cycling career and that he used them to lance his saddle sores, a common ailment among cyclists."
  11. GREAT GREAT to see some Saffers will be lining up for the XCO!
  12. Hahaha, what a cool preview. How he manages to keep chatting and feeding info through all of that is insane.
  13. TSS = (sec x NP x IF)/(FTP x 3600) x 100 sec = Time of workout in seconds NP = normalized power (strava weighted avg est) IF = intensity factor (NP / FTP) FTP = your current FTP and Bob's your uncle
  14. There are many factors. It's a value of current fitness, but the 'reactivity' of the graph is based on your FTP, or HR zones...AND a rider at 50 with an FTP of 250 is much stronger than a rider at 55 with an FTP at 210. SO....if you keep ticking the graph upward, managing your form levels in the low negatives, and then get your form above 0 right before a race you should be good to go. Law of diminishing returns apply quickly, to get tick the graph higher you need more and more training load.
  15. Suffer score on Strava is based on the time you spent in various HR zones, marginally correlates to TSS. Another way is to use the est. power calced in strava (based on body and bike weight) and calculate your own TSS. Again this will only be an estimate, because many other variables (terrain, wind, etc) are not accounted for in this method. But all in all it does add value. I trained like that last year and worked for me

    The Munga 2015

And have the Leverage Corporation organize it...
  17. Sometimes it's just a reflex. Could be something else. Odd as you say. But glad you made it out ok. I imagine if you stuffed it up on the actually drop it could have been nasty
  18. Haha, thanks for the share dude. It just looks like an untimely use of the front brake.
  19. Big respect. Even more so to find out she had a crash pre-race, blacked out, and probably rode the race with a concussion! Nee donner, I don't take two stairs at a time when I nudged my head on the car door, never mind Nino-lining a xc course to victory. That chick has a great pair of .... legs
  20. Without a doubt, I was screaming that last lap when the dropped the bomb....and then dropped Abso. Nino rode like a champ! I have enjoyed the 3way Nino / Abso / Jaro have been treating us to, so was sad to see Jaro so 'nowhere'.
  21. Nice race. As mentioned - if you sit in a group you can get the first 75km done without too much effort... ...but all hell normally breaks loose up Hekpoort. Bring your climbing legs, and if you manage to break from the bunch, be prepared to TT the last 25km of undulations. Venue is ok. We had issues getting food after the race last year, so don't expect a great meal.
  22. Rode a bit waiting at the gate - but thats about 1 lap - lap is only 57km https://app.strava.com/activities/226635154
