which cheapish FS bike?

Trying to decide which cheapish Full susser to get. Wife has place max limit at R14000. Been looking at a mongoose canaan comp and silverback mercury 2. Like the frame of the mongoose, but like the components on the silverback. Any other options?

 

I was originally looking at getting a specialized rockhopper 29er, but unfortunately they are coming out much later and I am without bike at the mo

Not 100 % sure on the price of the canaan comp as the bicycling bike buyers guide has the 2009 price.

Canaan comp good value...have you tried Dave Wiseman Cycles in Glenwood. They have a great range at that level and very good advice.

Thanks.....In PMB so would go to either greg minnaars for the canaan or Jowetts for the mercury 2. I prefer the canaan, but I think they are about a grand more expensive. Dustyman2010-01-19 05:40:23

How about the Giant Anthem X3 (if they are still around), I got mine about 6 months ago for about R12500 complete.  It might not have the components that the Mercury has but it has a proven frame!

I would love one of those beautys RobG, but according to the Bicycling bike buyers guide, they are R17195 now.

I see they have upgraded the forks and the wheelset is different, maybe this makes up the extra R4700 in 6 months!!

why not buy a 2nd hand bike for that value. there are brilliant deals around on thehub as well as gumtree. have seen a 2009 anthem2 for sale on gumtree and on capeads/junkmail for that price. new bikes are totally overpriced.

if those are your options, my personal opinion would be the Trance - great all-mountain, go anywhere bike
