I normally have batteries replaced at IHF/POLAR in Midrand. POLAR does not have a service centre in Lagos so I had to do the battery change myself. The battery of the Speed Sensor on the Tandem seemed to be weakening because some data got lost. I replaced it with a new one. Previously I had moisture damage due to incorrect closing of the sensor. This time around I took some precautions. I cut a piece of black insulation tape and taped the joint to help with waterproofing. I made sure the tape is long enough for two windings of the 5mm wide piece of tape. I also took two small pieces of poster putty and pushed it into the screw holes. In a nick I think this will help. This will definitely void your guarantee but is the way to go if you sit in the middle of nowhere. Lagos can be classified as nowhere I suppose.

The Strike starts today at 15hoo as far as all rumours and expectations go. We have all been warned that verything will close down Form 15h00 today there will be no movement on street, transport, no vendors, markets and shops will be closed. There is already a marked decrease in traffic outside. We are situated right next to the Falamo Bridge that is one of the busiest arterials in Lagos. I hope she will be able to get back to the airport.

I just spoke to our drivers and the consensus is the strike will most likely be called at any moment. This will mean that all people on incoming flights will be stranded at the airport and all outgoing passenger will not be able to reach the airport.

Bad news I think.

My HR is starting to show that the batery is going flat, can I take it to any watch shop or does Polar have to do it. AAgh as I will be without the HR for a few weeks then.

Your monitor, watch and sensors are bound to the POLAR warranty that becomes void if you do not have it done by POLAR in Midrand. Contact them on +27118051028 and find out who your closest dealer is or send it via insured mail. They will post it back to you after repair and turnaround time is normally less than two weeks.

A slim Jannie at Bruce R's shop in Pretoria once tried to replace the battery. Stuffed up the seal and POLAR was decent enough to replace the watch under warranty after it became water damaged.
