So I got a new SRAm Red Cassette yesterday. Firstly it was a very tight fit over my freebody and took a bit of force to get on. Only after I put it on I realized that I didnt need a spacer, so had to take it off again. With a bit of force it came off, but to my surprise found that its not one piece. The back section has a backing place with popped out.

This plate is not only the only place 8 or the gears (from the one piece) makes contact with the freebody, but also transmits all the drive through one conact point with the cassette.

I am a bit scared of this design. Anyone have experience with using this cassette?

I feel inclined to go back to Dura Ace...anyone want to swop :) ??

I'm not as techie as you are Des, I pretty much loosen and tighten stuff on the bike but leave the rest for the mechanic. I do have a RED on a set of EA90SLX's and all I can say is........it's the LOUDEST cassette I've ever heard. It makes a real racket. Having said that I've had the RED since Dec'09 and have experienced no problems other than those that ear plugs wont solve smiley2.gif smiley2.gif

I dont think you have to worry. That is quite a unique design, personally I think a very good one. The noisy is simply because the cassette is hollow.

Wish someone told me this before I spent a fortune on one. Guess?I should have asked...

Sorry to be an asshole, but if you did a search on the hub...you would have found comments on the RED.....by TARMAC, if I remember correctly??!!

Will use it on my training wheels for a bit first. Once I have more confidence I will use them for racing (or at least my version of racing)

Will still swop for a DA cassette at the first chance I get!

I have used full SRAM Red since June 2009. Never had any issue. No need to swap it. It works perfectly! So what if it is a bit noisy. It is not really that much noisy.
