Hi have Tubeless XT 29er Rims but cannot find proper 29er UST tires.

I have fitted Continental Mountain Kings as a tubeless conversion but it is messy and I cannot get the tire to seat on the rim without using a bomb or going the to garage to use a compressor.

So there are 2 questions

1. is it worth it running tubeless conversion or should I just run tubed?

2. what tires work well as tubeless conversion?

Bontrager make a tubeless ready 29'er.

I have used ans succesfully converted and used most of the tyres to tubeless except the Maxxis options, had issues with them.

These include

Conti's (take a bit more effort),

Spesh (very little trouble),

Bontrager (Pretty easy),

Kenda (minor issue with the holes in the sidewalls),

WTB (sidewalls a bit squishy),

Maxxis (refused to take for love or money)

Running WTB Exiwolves '29 non UST as Ghetto tubeless with no issues whatsoever. Go through the  effort of getting them  seated the first time at the garage and you won't look back. I've ridden through patches of duwweltjies that have had my heart sink and lost basically no pressure, sealed perfectlu every time. Well worth it, over and over again. No question about it, I will never use tubes if I can avoid them again.

Small Block 8's work well too.

Which Bontrager did you try? And could you get it to seat without a compressor. Or is that just an impossibility that I would have to live with.

The Conti's take a lot of effort and they seem to lose air. But apparently that will get better.

Used the Bontrager XDry as well as the Jones ACX, the XDry worked better. I think the new XDX should work pretty well as well.

I do remember the Conti's taking some effort, they've been fine for a while now though.

Favourite is the Spesh Fast Trak or Captain.
