Excuse the ignorance, who are the cycling specific Clothing bands local or international in the country?

Am not taking about technical apparel worn wile cycling , but something which identifies you as a cycler without having and hard good manufacture or the chest .

Dakine & Fox?

Agree with mampara!! Stay away from team replica creations because most of them are darn right FOUL!!! GHEY !!!

Price is a huge issue, its crazy that a decent top sets you back almost R500, and that for a local one. The imported (assos and the like) are R1k.

So yes there is definately a market, but the demand will be as a result of style and price, so that is what u should focus all your attention on IMHO

Sorted.

Indola has a nice idea. Seeing that alot of people wear hydration systems it is dificult to get to the pockets. They have moved them to the sides away from the hydration pack.

+100 on that!

Nothing like getting your fist stuck in the pocket just as you hit a knarly section.

Kinda like the baboon and the pampoen!

my 2cents...

I love my mountain biking, I also like the "lifestyle", but I don't get that feeling here in SA.

I always find myself on international websites looking for clothing they have to offer. There are always so much variety to choose from and different designs for different parts of the mtb "lifestyle"...racing... free ride...downhill...xc...etc.

Just the other day I saw a guy at a race with a mtb jersey that was so cool (and different!) (http://www.clubridea...eys/new-west-12), that have more of a free-ride vibe to it, and it looked like he wasn't there to race, but to just enjoy being on his bike on another trail - and that is what I was looking for.

But now I have to import that similar shirt, and at R700+ I am not willing to do so, so I rather stick with my "plain" Fox or First ascent shirt that I got for a lot cheaper.

Same with "baggy"-type pants. The one's I got has a very thin chamois - so again I find myself online looking for Endura pants...

Just go onto pinkbike.com and you get that "lifestyle" feeling (random selection: http://www.pinkbike....Trove-2012.html ) - with the clothing to accompany it , and yet we are so limited for choice in this country.

Unfortunately people in this country don't want pay over 500 bucks for a shirt and over 700 for pants (ok - some will), so you're pricing will have to be very attractive without compromising quality & too stand out from the rest.

All the best with your venture!

Agree, but the funny thing is when there is a sale or clearance or when you import (in some cases), the costs are so much lower, makes you think about the ACTUAL cost of producing the product and the TOTAL RIPP-OFF markup on some of these items...
