  1. ebike. Damn autocorrect
  2. Saw my first bike in a road race today. Not sure how cool it is even in d batch.
  3. Chain lube is a fluid and will flow through capillary action and through surface tension. The fluid sits in the small gaps between the rollers and the links, and as the chain goes through the drivetrain these gaps get smaller on the tension side and larger on the slack side. This causes a "pumping" type of action and the fluid flows out of the small caps to larger gaps, and some of it goes to the outside of the pins and finds the outside of the plates. Then the creeping motion of the fluid is helped by the vibrations of varying frequencies through the chain. By definition the fluid (lube) on the outside of the chain is evidence of too much lube in the initial application. This "too much lube" is not totally avoidable as we cannot abbey the lube directly to the gaps between the metal surfaces as they are hidden. SO we apply lube and it flows into the gaps where it is desired. The excess should then be wiped off. No lube is needed on the outside of the chain, just in the places that the metal plates and rollers rub against each other. The merits of oil as a lubricant of choice in the application where two metal surfaces rub against each other under high pressure is documented and proven. The negative of this proper lubrication is that it can be messy. But in order to keep adjacent moving metal surfaces apart, and thus reducing wear, a lubricating film of an oil is required.

  5. I guess the greatness of the coffee is about context. During Dakar this year Overdrive had this beauty out early at each stop. Mounted in a carry case with another on the other end and the cups and capsules in little drawers. You can see that it has done a few rally seasons! Heaven!
  6. I think that a lot of the moaning and bitching stems from not really understanding the heart rate vs time thing, and that the log for points favours a high rate. So don't record the bits that lower the average, like warm up and the stops for coffee etc. I think the Vitality rewards is a great thing and has certainly nudged me into exercising more regularily and it helps to make bailing on a session a bit harder. Which I suppose is the whole aim of the programme. So I get more exercise, free gym, cash back, free iwatch, and free drinks. Cool
  7. I run on the treadmill for 31 min and get 300 points per run so it is pretty easy to get to the max target. Remember that the points are time based on your heart rate, so start recording after warm up and stop before cool down. I find it pretty easy to meet the targets, just takes a bit of thought. And I am getting too many points for a 3 and a bit hour cradle ride of about 100km. I really don't see what the issue is with the targets and points. Just think and record and enjoy the benefits.
  8. Well done on the care and kindness you showed today. I was one of the group who stopped to help. The rider was lucky to have you there for your care and comfort. Thank you!
