  7. Is it worth it to take electronic devices over from SA, or just buy new in NZ? Like a TV? Had suggestions to buy new in SA, then take over to NZ. Does NZ use different power adapters?
  8. Not on DSTV hey? Only Redbull TV?
  9. Whilst on the NZ subject, I was quite shocked to see this…
  10. Thanks for replies, guess we’re pretty spoiled here in Cape Town with over a 170km worth of trails (Tygerberg mtb trail network) on our doorstep, some (Jonkershoek/ Banhoek) within big mountains. Reason for asking is we might move to Auckland soon, just getting a feel for some of the “sacrifices” we would have to make in terms of our mountain biking and access to mountain trail riding.
  11. Question. How’s the mtb scene in/around Auckland? Any good trails to recommend? Compared to Tygerberg trails in Cape Town and other like Banhoek / Jonkershoek, Helderberg, Stellenbosch Trails? any similar type spots? I have heard Rotorua is also a hub for good trails.
  12. Great bike. Pity the select few who can probably afford this ridiculous price wouldn’t be able to shred it like it’s supposed to.
  13. Would love to do this ride, unfortunately the safety in SA is of concern, every now and then I flick through the Cycling Safety thread, seems like incidents are increasing everywhere with some real horror stories. Pity.
  14. Is there still a trail at Groenlandberg?
  15. This hits close to home, on my urban route as well. Just show, wherever you have these low-lifes in informal settlements, crime will be rife. I have been cycling past there for 4 years now. It looks like a dump anyway when you drive past there, okes boozing 7am in the morning, smoking who knows what and just overall a dirty place. Be safe, or take a weapon with. I feel we as members should ask our local MTB clubs (Tygerberg MTB Club) to approach the local ward councilor and put pressure on them to get police involved and make sure areas are patrolled.
  16. Hey guys, need some advice. What setup would I need to power a laptop and a iMac together with my wifi-router? What would I need to budget roughly? Any good deals / suggestions? We live in a complex with pre-paid electricity box and neighbors are close - so a petrol generator won't work in our setup. Thanks.
  17. Is SS airing the DH? Nothing on yet for women elite
  18. What is the “overall EPIC feel” ?
  19. This past weekend's W2W Shiraz event was my first W2W event ever. What an experience! I can definitely recommend this to any first timers to a stage race. From start to finish the organization of this event stood out for me. Everything ran smoothly and the overall experience was great. The water points from Woolies were well stocked with ReHidrate, Coca-cola, water & snacks (dates, bananas, chips, sandwiches, naartjies, watermelon, jelly babies, jelly worms, ocassional banana bread, cake pieces) more than enough to get one going again and we really enjoyed the vibe at the water points. There were even some wines to be sampled en-route. Once fueled up from all the snacks the guys from Squirt lubed up the chains and you set off to the next one or to finish off for the day. Race village was outstanding! DHL provided a massive pickup area (under roof & on pallets so your bags don't get wet / soggy from the grass). Each rider has his own tent with your race number on it, clearly marked and easy to find. Each tent is supplied with a mattress (was comfy and had a good two nights sleep). Overall during the evening I hardly heard any snoring and the weren't too much noise to keep you awake (except for a few noise okes after the rugby world cup win on Saturday evening late). More than enough chill areas provided for riders with bars where you can buy refreshments (beer/coldrinks/wine). The complimentary spur burger & chips was nice after a long ride washed down with some CBC Lager. Hardly any queues waiting for food & drinks. The whole race village was kept tidy and cleaners were constantly cleaning up after people who can't bin their rubbish. We didn't spent any time in FNB lounge area (the indoor area had aircon) but it looked chilled and people were enjoying lounging around. There was a huge area for massages, a huge dining tent where you get a very nice breakfast in the morning as well as dinner in the evenings. The food was great! Really enjoyed the spread. After your ride each day you take your bike to get washed and placed in area where all the bikes are locked up during the night. Ablutions and showers was not too far away and the shower setup worked very well (warm water if you needed it). Overall it was a very nice experience, riders & W2W staff were very friendly through the whole weekend which made the experience even better, not to mention the awesome trails you get to ride on a event like this. My mind was blown by the beautiful scenery and the Gantouw Pass was an experience in itself. The finish in Onrus was great against the backdrop of the ocean and riding on the beach - you have made it! Yes the race is tough but with some training it is more than doable. Next year the route will be in reverse, starting off in Onrus and finishing in Lourensford, I don't know if I'm keen for all that climbing but I really enjoyed my first Wines2Whales and kudos to everyone for making it a very memorable experience, it was GREAT!
  20. Weather is looking good (better) for the Shiraz this weekend. Been reading up on the other forums about the Chardonnay event, most feel a bit disappointed about the water points and the elitist vibe associated with the event compared to the midweek #seriousgees vibes for first timers to the event. We are first timers who got a complimentary entry for the Shiraz (pro race event), I don't want that to dampen our experience of the event, so going to approach this with an open mind and if it's really that terrible, I will report back. Trails look good though.
  21. Noob questions. First time doing Wine2Whales. 1. What do you pack in terms of clothing, bedding etc? (have the tent +mattress option) 2. How does the shower facilities work? 3. Is it noisy in the tent village at night with all the snoring? 4. Any preferred meds to pack for cramps, stomach ache, headaches etc? 5. Can you charge phones / power banks at the race village? Any tips/tricks welcome. Thank you.
  22. Yes, and thanks for the link. I want to use it when I go for an afternoon ride around the neighborhood. Don't want to lug the whole CamelBak setup for a quick ride
  23. awesome! thanks!
