i cant get the pedals off my cranks, how do you loosen the pedals from the crank? I have got the right sized tool and the muscle ;) but cant get the bolt to budge. is there a specific tecnique or did my lbs tighten  it way too much?

If you sitting on the bike, the left hand pedal has a left-handed thread. Right hand pedal has a normal thread.

MAKE SURE YOU LOOSEN BOTH BACKWARDS!!!!!!!!  Remember one is left thread and the other right. 

 

I hop you got that bit right at least, so if you mean they are still stuck.  Well, then get a longer wrench!

Non drive side (left) has a right hand thread. To Loosen the pedal insert the 8mm allen key into the socket at the back of the pedal and turn the allen key clockwise if you are facing the non drive side.

The Right hand pedal has a left hand thread. when facing the chainset, rotate the allen key anticlockwise.

 

If they won;t budge then you need a longer lever. Little multitools are pathetic for loosening pedals. Get a power bar and 8mm Allen Socket wrench.

when refitting the pedals, just tighten the axle  till finger tight and then a little. Do not put your weight into the job.

 

The forward rotation of the crank tightens the axle anyways.
