How much riding can be done on TBM from town side? Any trails or is it make up as you go? Anyone got routes?

The trail from Signal Hill down the back. Has anyone done that? Where does it end?

Need to get some distance riding on MTB in.

There's a network of gravel roads below the tar road, some interconnect, others are ?dead ends, but all good for cycling.? Take a look on google earth.

As for Signal Hill, the only route down I know, is if you are coming back down the tar road from the parking lot, first left. Its quite steep but good fun, takes you down to the Bo Kaap. ?

Ive got the same question...

What abt top of Constantia Neck to Table Mountain top?

What abt Rhodes Memorial?

What abt Silvermine?

Are these MTB ridable paths??  There are signposts which indicates MTB.

At the view area on Signal hill there is a path that goes off to the left if u are facing the sea. Was up there one day and saw a few MTB go down there. Will take the MTB up there and have a look.

There is a path along the top of Signal hill that starts off the road near the Mosque and ends up at the car park - ridable, but can be a bit dodge in terms of security.

No legal routes from Constantia Nek

What abt Rhodes Memorial?

There is a road leading up to the blockhouse which you can ride on as far as I know. It should link up to the TBM dirt tracks.

What abt Silvermine?

Silvermine has a 10km MTB loop' date=' nice ride, some steep climbing and then a nice fast descent, great views on top of Hout Bay, Noordhoek and Sunvalley. A great ride to do is to start at Tokai, go up using a combination of jeep track and singletrack, go along the silvermine road, up the tar road and around the MTB loop, then back down to Tokai along the downhill track. Its about 38km, 900m ascent, should take around 2-3 hours.

If you are talking about the MTB routes on table mountain, they are either fast rocky descents, or loose technical climbs depending on whether you are going up or down Big%20smile

Constantia Nek to top of the mountain is very do able, but I seem to recall a sign at one stage, specifically prohibiting MTB's from going further, we choose to ignore it as it was very misty and cold and raining with no hikers around, we went up to the waterworks museum. Remember going to the top is illegal and not advised.

Tokai to Silvermine with the loop at Silvermine is another option, not very far, but good views and a few good hills to climb.

From Rhodes Mem, you can go all the way to the cable car on mainly jeep track... Some very nice riding with a few very tough climbs, but nothing too technical. Obviously can do the opposite from the town side. I just pick roads as i go and you learn the routes fairly quickly, but most roads will end up taking you in the right direction. If you go all the way to the top of Signal Hill and back, it ends up being a nice long training ride.

As Parabola says, the route from Tokai forest up to silvermine and around the 10km loop at the top is a very nice, very scenic ride. If you don't know your way around Tokai, you might find you end up at the wrong place a few times first though.

Wouldn't mind hearing about any other nice routes in the Southern suburbs. Is there anywhere on the other side of table mountain to ride (i.e. above Camps Bay/Llandudno etc?)

Just think it would be nice if you could go from Rhodes mem to the cable car and around the other side back to constantia nek, then apparently there's a short track up next to constantia nek to the top of it and then just have to follow the road from there for the last few km's.

There is foot path above Camps Bay, the pipe track, It goes up a pass just past Camps Bay. But its really just for walkers (sign posted as such), as are the footpaths (contour path) above the road on the front of the mountain, and lots of walkers there (or used to be), I wouldnt cycle there not because you cant but because its not really on. ?

I just bought a map "Table Mountain & Cape Peninsula Activities"  It has got all the MTB trails as well as walking trails for the entire Table Mountain.  I am very impressed...

It is a 1st edition, so a new map, well worth the R102.00...

I am from the Parklands area and looking for hubbers to explore the mountain with me.  These days one cannot go it alone, what a pity!!
