What is the big difference between the GT Zaskar 7005 Aluminium frame and the GT Avalanche 6061 Aluminium frame? I know there is a difference in the aluminum used but the Zaskar frame is more than double the Avalanche frame.

6000-series is aluminum alloyed mainly with magnesium, and tends to be a bit more ductile (for instance, it would be more apt to wilt or buckle than to snap, compared to 7000-series).

7000-series aluminum is alloyed primarily with zinc. It tends to be harder and stronger but perhaps more brittle. Excellent material for chainrings due to its hardness, too.

No, The avelanche is an "all mountain" frame and the zaskar is an "xc" frame.

all mountain - more comfy up right postion

xc race - lower down stretched out, faster, but less comfy

Both are excellent frames for their type of riding. I think the zaskar is lighter.

I would not go so far and call it an "all mountain" frame. You are right with the for comfortable part but all mountain frames are rugged, heavy and quite slack head tubes. I would rather say it's a "comfort" frame and not a pure race bred frame like the Zaskar.

As a novice I am asking this question, will it not take an expert rider to actually feel the difference between the two frames. I can see that the top tube of the avalanche is 21.8mm shorter than the Zaskar but you can change that by putting a different neck on the avalanche?
