I'm considering buying either the Trance X3 or the Anthem X3, both being the 2010 model. What are the main difference between the two? I can get the Trance for about R1000 cheaper...

Anthem X is supposed to be more race orientated than the Trance X. 100mm front and rear suspension vs 120mm for starters.

The Anthem X is more of a race bike with excellent trailbike manners. It has 100mm travel front and rear give or take a few mm.

The geometry is more suited to racing.

The Trance X is a full on trailbike that pedals well uphill too, with about 125mm rear and 120mm front suspension travel.

It has a significantly more "relaxed" geometry than the Anthem X thus making you sit more upright. It is great for technical trails and downhills(not downhill races!).

It would be best to forget about the money difference and test ride them both, or at least sit on them to get a feel for how they fit you.

They are both excellent bikes.

If you are more of a regular racer type then the Anthem X would be a good bet, it is also well suited for marathons or multi day epics.

I do not think you should choose between these two based on parts spec. either, rather choose the one suited to your style of riding and the frame that fits you best.

Hope this helps.

By the way I don't ride either....

Thanks Goatman, that is helpful. I want a comfy ride over say 50km distances and love technical terrain...sounds more like the Trance for now.

Anyone know how much these bikes weigh?

+1 what goatman said.

If you prefer comfort and technical terrain then it's a no-brainer. Trance X is one of the most playful/fun bikes I've ridden.

Don't own either but have demo'd both.

Tank i ahve owned both and from what u saying about comfy 50km and technical go for the trance. the anthem is awesome if u are a race snake but the trance is so much more comfortable and munches the technical stuff

Trance if you like playing.

Anthem if you like racing.

For the price of a new X3 there are some very nice used higher specs dual suspensions avble at the moment.

go ride both and see which one picks you.

i have a trance and absolutely love the bike. it did ride2rhodes last year, joberg2c this year, so can do marathon distances. and it's more forgiving on technical stuff.
