i would say you can get out of clipless faster than toeclips, youshould maybe look at the following type:

dual side, normal pedal teeth on one side, clipless on the other

The problem with dual side is trying to remount them as they have a tendency to flip over. Load of crap to be hounest.

What I use are the following:

Have you seen what these things do to your shin if you don't click it in properly ;)

I use 5-10 shoes and DMR V12 pedals. I tilt my toes slightly downward in a climb and the shoes stick enough to actually have an upstroke as well.

To quote pappabear on the 5-10's 'They stick like gum to a church shoe'

let's take a step back here... until i do, or if i ever, get clipless pedals... what are the best types of shoes to wear with flat pedals? what type of sole gives the better grip? for example, something chunky and patterned like a pair of merrells? or something flat and rubbery like skate sneakers? just out of interest... does it actually make a difference?

I think most hubbers have forgotten that your on a budget.

But if you are talking about which shoes and going to buy them, then you might as well first start off with some new cycling shoes (eg Olympics).

Then save up for some descent pedals.

I don't know if these shoes are available in the country but I think it would would work great with flat pedals. It's Shimano shoes.

If you ask your LBS pretty please he will give you the plastic thingy below left on the pic for nothing. It clips onto the one side of the pedal like your cycling shoe and enables you to use it as a "normal" pedal. When you grow used to cycling correctly one day you can remove it and use the pedal as it should be.

The pedals are the Shimano PD M250 clipless pedals. Cheap and works well.
