Just Cyclelab...or do they all overcharge like this ?

djeeees guys,

thanks for all the feedback. I take the point that my OP perhaps could have used more diplomatic language....but it was sincere...

Very interesting the data given on bearing C3 etc quality etc. but sounds as if it is generally agreed that shopping around for "Generic" parts will give one cables, bearings, etc that are perfectly good enough (?) for our purpose.

I can also mention that this episode actually started about a month earlier when I asked a local LBS to check the wheel for me due to a 'shudder' I had on hard braking .

I thought it was caused by disc brake pads...sanded them clean...no difference.....replaced them with new softer pads....no difference.....removed, cleaned, the disk and its fittings.....no difference....

Then decided the small amount of play in the bearings combined with the off-set effect of the brake pad on the brake disc may be to blame.... So, in desparation decided it was out of my knowledge/skill range and took the bike to the LBS.

Explained the whole story and process and they agreed to investigate.

Bottom line is when I fetched the bike, they had replaced the pads (again!) and said they had 'tightened the cones for me' ! As I of course knew these wheels did not have the old cone and axles set-up, and I told them I had replaced the pads myself (bought from them !) I just flipped my lid, paid the fee and walked out....

These then were the bearings I decided to remove and check... found rusty water... and this whole saga per my original OP began...

So, sometimes Sh!t prices, other times Sh!t service.

Oh boy how I miss the old Willy Engelbrecht shop - I knew I paid a little more (2 or 3 hundred on a bike).....but the after sales service, freebees, personal interest shown and quality was always more than worth the little premium I paid on my bikes, new wheels etc.

[Note to self - gotta go find their webike shop and see if the quality continued !]
