Oh, I assume the airport in Alaska (Anchorage, Juneau?) has storage facilities for your bike box etc.?

I did ski-resort work in whistler in 2003/2004, then bummed around vancouver for a few months doing odd jobs. Got into bike touring as the second hand stores made it all pretty cheap..think my whole rig cost me about $200CAN - about a thousand bucks back then (db topanga + rack/panniers/tent/alles - i took zero bike equip with me)

 

I did a few trips onto vancouver island and then took three weeks riding up the coast (and using ferries - same view as a cruise liner, but you just sleep on a sun lounger). I made it all the way to Dawson City, site of the klondike gold rush, about 100km short of the Artic circle. then I had to turn around and get to a wedding in Toronto. I was surving on about $10/day and so almost just somme carried on regardless!

 

but your riding looks way cooler, I stuck to the roads.
