Ok I have been of the bike totally for about 8 weeks and before this i was a weekend warrior for at least a year. Ding a 3-5 hr ride one ore twice a month.

Now I am 15kg overweight and and.

Went for a ride today and nearly died. Only 25km and took strain going up the hill on the way home. Damn, it is normally done sitting chatting at 26 - 30km/h.

Now I barley made it up.

So the Question is............ How long will it take to get back to doing 100km at 28-30km/hr.

What sort of break-in/ramp up should one do?

And Ja will reduce the carbs intake to 1/2L beer per day. (Rome was not built in a day you know)

i say go cold turkey. the hardest part of any diet or weight control program is not the weight control, but the mind control you have to exercise to achieve your goals. People make all sorts of concessions mentally that translate into a physical symptom. This undermines the strength of the human mind. Tell yourself you are going to stop. and you will stop. Eating in most instances is not a mental dis-ease. we complicate things with the concessions.
