O for crying out loud woofie......we don't have to lie about it!

you can actually feel axle thickness difference in your hand.

I am looking for a solution as I have a set of Token skewers at 46g and a set of KCNC at 44g that I cannot use.

The new token skewers say 5mm thick onthe box but when measured with a vernier they are also 4.5mm

So, Tarmac you reckon I shouldnt get these?

I definately don't want to waste money..

not for those wheels. I have tried and ended up using the DA skewers...

I have used the KCNC on all my other wheels though without any problems.

help me look for a 5mm pair!

Thanks for that..

The DA Skewers are among the safest and nicest(long lasting and looks) ones according to many reviews and websites however they definatley on the heavy side!

Ya they weigh a ton.

My Campy ones are a little more bearable at 105g

Having a grands worth of Ti Skewers lying in my parts box tho is killing me.

Wow, Thanks Spinnekop.

Now I am really too scared to ever buy them!

All my weight resting just on like 10Grams on each side (probably the metal bit) doesnt sound toooo safe!!

Strangely not. I have had several wheelsets, including amclassic, Easton, DT swiss, Zipp and I didnt have this issue until I got the Shimano 7850's.

I have since got bora's andi have the same thing.

it seems the 7850's and campy wheels use a 5mm thick axle to improve stiffness, where others are 4.5mm to slide through easily or have hex key inners for hub servicing which takes up the remaining float... either way i hope i am wrong but I have tested the wheels and all problem sets definitely have thicker std skewers.

The velomax skerwers i have are 4.8-4.9mm

I would love someone to tell me I'm wrong though so I can use my ti skewers.

Your weight doesn't rest on the skewer - it rests on the outside of the hub flange.

The skewer goes through that. You can actually rest your bike on the wheel without a skewer even inserted...

That said..I wonder if more clamping force will alleviate the problem I explained above... perplexing indeed

Hi Tarmac

Did you sell your DA7850 C24's?

What did you think of the wheelset?

Is there perhaps another lighter skewer that I could make use of?
