Your weight doesn't rest on the skewer - it rests on the outside of the hub flange.

The skewer goes through that. You can actually rest your bike on the wheel without a skewer even inserted...

That said..I wonder if more clamping force will alleviate the problem I explained above... perplexing indeed

Yes, that is right.

The skewer is simply there to pull it all together.

Well in that case it really doesnt make sense why they dont work for you.

Tighter clamping would sort it out then surely.

Hi Tarmac

Did you sell your DA7850 C24's?

What did you think of the wheelset?

Is there perhaps another lighter skewer that I could make use of?

I did sell my C24's - although not because I was unhappy with them - they are a fantasic set of wheels. Really stiff and light. I just wanted to use the new road tubeless setup and bought Shamal 2 way fit wheels.

The campag skewer is a start, but I'm also looking for an alternative in the sub 50g range. Let me know if you find one

Somehow it still rocks? I am scratching my head too now trying to find out why it wouldnt work. I only really have the problem on the rear. The front is not so pronounced.

I am going to put in my Token ones on the next ride and give you some feedback.

Yes, I am searching.

Will definately let you know once I've found a set.

I will try them one more time and give you a shout...

I dont intend on changing wheels anytime soon (or my wife will kill me and you will need to get the skewers out of my estate)

Ok so I tried my Token skewers out on my Boras this weekend with success.

I fitted the skewers and the rear rocked terribly...I thought ho-hum it doesn't work, just as I thought...

...but then I noticed after a few closures it was different sometimes compared to others, I wondered what the difference could be and then I saw that on the lever side there was a slight gap as the flat surface sat away from the dropout. It wasn't flush. I changed the little spring for a new one as I though it was coiling up properly, but it made no difference.

Then I removed the spring all together... and the Force was with me!

It turns out the coiled up spring had nowhere to disappear to inside the skewer plate or something, and was keeping the clamping surface away from the dropout surface.

I raced with the wheels like this on Sunday and had no issues whatsoever. I am also going to try my KCNC ones on the Shamal wheels which have the same skewers as the boras and drop another note.

Whoohoo!

I am sure your frame rests on the axle tube that the skewer runs through. The skewer is just there to clamp the wheel in. If there is play then it might be coming from play in the bearings of flex in the spokes..

The KCNC's works real well, so well infact, that 84gr diff has taken 17min off my Argus time.

And my Aunty knew a guy in Korea who had Bamboo ones at 8gr a piece but his friend stole it from another friend

who thought it was fire wood and started a braai with it...

some are very easily entertained

as demonstrated by your meanderings here...

PS your Korean mate was using a kebab stick and those are fire retardant so they are very hard to use to start a fire.

I've got a set on my shamals and on my Reynolds and they work perfect!

I did have a rock on the rear wheel out of the box, but realized that the bearing flange wasn't properly tightened. Loosened the grub screw and pushed it back in and tightned it and problem solved.
