got one on my schwinn madison fixie.

one side is fixed, the other freewheel. only used the freewheel twice:

*once (when exiting a pub i hit the stairs a bit hard, and) broke the seatpost. flipped the wheel round and rode home with freewheel as i wanted to rest every now and then as i couldn't sit

*(about a month ago)took my fixed cog off and then lost the flippen lockring somewhere. they're damn pricey(R90) so rode it free for about a week before i went and bought another one (have since found it again). only had a front brake, so was using the 'tekkie stop' most of the time - got a nice groove in my shoe now.

got one on my kona ss too:

only using the one side, could throw on a different gear i suppose but would have to be for trips/tours. your tyre would be backwards.

so nice to have but i wouldn't go looking for it specifically

There is the problem for me! Backwards tyre! Thanks for the feedback everyone, will disregard that flip flop idea now!

nothing too much wrong with backward tyres. especially if you pair it with different gearing (you'd be having an uphill/flat option). you'd just have to think about it.

I did a 6 day outback tour last year on a ssixxam tt nesrral, on about day 3 i noticed it and claimed it was for extra grip
