Ok the two frames below are On-Ones 100mm travel frames with horizontal drop slots ex. http://www.planet-x-bikes.co.za/ ...

So the Inbred is in steel and the Scandal in 7046 Aluminium ....

My question is as follows - will one loose that feel of steel that you get on the inbred should you go for the Scandal ... i.e will the Scandal be a harsher ride than the Inbred?

Any On-One riders out there able to comment?http://www.planet-x-bikes.co.za/images/products/Inbred-Slot-Dropout-side-on-green.jpghttp://www.planet-x-bikes.co.za/images/products/09-Scandel-sliding-droupout-006.jpg

Yip feel would be different - keep it real and have steel!

Otherwise PM Kiwi as he is THE MAN with regards to On One products.... What are you doing looking at 100mm bikes? You know the On One is going to make you want to go jump off something!

@XTC1: I am looking for riders with real rider input on these bikes.

@More Trails: I am currently riding the 1st Gen Inbred (Steel) and love the bike ... the lure behind the 2nd Gen is being able to run discs both front and back. Yes she is a heck of alot of fun to ride.

OK here is my real rider input, I have the first generation Inbred 29 and it's an awesome ride, I have not tried a Scandal but the steel Inbred is a lot more forgiving than the old aluminium hardtail that I still have lying unused in the garage. I've hit the odd jump with it and landings have been suprisingly smooth, much nicer than aforementioned aluminium Giant XTC...it just doesn't have that same "jarring" effect.

I don't know what it is about that Inbred...my trailbike is my favourite bike to thrash or when I'm feeling aggressive and I really LIKE it ... the Inbred however is my pride and joy and I LOVE it! I guess I also like something different to the rest of the crowd...just far too many generic aluminium bikes out there.

I wouldn't mind the Inbred Summer Season with a longer travel fork as a playbike though...saw two of them rigged as single speeds in Ceres and they looked awesome.

Now that is the response I am looking for thanks.

I had test ridden a SS 26"er summer season from a hubber before I decided on my inbred and it feels like a bike that would be completely at home on hard hitting ST or flowing smooth trails.

There was a guy and girl doing the Ceres 70km on Summer Season singlespeeds...massive hats off to them.

What do you want to use the bike for? If it's for ripping singletrack, playing, having fun, commuting and doing the odd event I think you already know my answer. If you are competitive or a weight weenie I guess you could join the Scandium crowd...I prefer comfort over weight and I like the idea of a steel bike, whether there really IS much of a difference in ride or whether it is the placebo effect I don't know...it somehow just feels right.

To me it sounds like you are about as indecisive about what you want to ride as I am...every day a new flavour pops up.

You already have the Inbred 26...why don't you build an Inbred 29 to match it? Or bring yours to Jonkershoek and you can try mine...we can hook up a Hub singlespeed ride. Maybe someone will be nice enough to bring a medium Shova for me to try out...

I am loving the steel ..... just curious RE the Scandium ... so 7046 Aluminium as per the planet-x website is Scandium then?

I know the Inbred is right for my purposes and my duallie takes care of the other spectrum of my cycling.

I will be getting a Reba soon to run at 120mm on the Inbred.

Hi Hairy,

Here's another option, available late November or early December: On One 456 Carbon with Swap Out Dropouts so you can run single speeder or geared (or 1 x 9-10). We have brought a few in on order and they are super trick:

Hi Bassasdaindia,

I'm hoping to hear from our Customs Agent Monday, It's in the country apparently - just trying to confirm that, so not much longer! The carbon is only available from 16" up at the moment but On One is planning to do a 14" 456 Carbon but no time line yet.
