Between the two, which is the better frame?

Can get a 2nd hand XTC frame, good condition. Not sure of year model. Is it a good option to replace my current Schwinn Mesa frame (about 2005) with the Giant?

What would be a good/fair price to pay for the XTC frame?

Giant XTC over the Schwinn Mesa any day...my 2c

Not sure of a price, but Giants come in at far cheaper price then other frames like spez, cannondale etc.

Had another look at the Giant frame. It's the XTC2 of unknown vintage. Feels quite light.(full alu)

Anybody has more info on these frames? (problems, weak points, reliability, etc) Googled it, but not much info found.

The Mesa is Schwinn's entry level frame and has a more relaxed riding position, basically a comfort orientated frame (the Moab is Schwinn's racing frame). The XTC is Giant's racing frame and I'm willing to bet it is much, much lighter.

Pricewise, there have been a number of XTC frames on the Hub for R1 000 to R1 500. I would replace the frame.

Wannabe, the XTC2 is WAAAY better than a Mesa. I rode an upgraded yellow XTC2 for two years before selling it to someone on here (hey, maybe it's mine you're looking it!). You'll find the XTC to climb like a demon compared to most comparable frames, it's also fairly race-oriented as far as geometry is concerned. To be honest, I sometimes wish I still had it when hitting some steep climbs on my current 5.5" trail bike.

Beautiful frame, I'm getting the grey one. Not buying the frame, swopping it for my old frame and other odds and ends I have/had laying around. Already stripped my old frame this arfie, will be doing the swop tomorrow. Don't have the correct tool to remove cranks/BB (external BB) will get it done tomorrow.

Will only do rebuild later in the week.

Anybody knows of a website where I can get the frame sizes for this Giant frame. Bit worried that it might be just too small for me. I'm 1.8m (inseam 81.5) Old frame is 52.5 from BB to top of seatpost, 55.5 from top of seatpost to head tube. Giant is 48 and 52.5.

Measurements might not be 100% spot on, as I was in a hurry, but the general idea of sizes are there.

Don't have a reference site for you, but can give you my personal experience. I had a medium (which is a 19" in Giant terms), I'm 1.83 and it suited me perfectly. I usually ride frames slightly smaller than most people would, so if you're 1.8 a medium will be spot on for you as far as average proportions go.

MH, thanks. Much appreciated. Will give the frame a go. See it is the SL(SuperLight).

My old frame, sans fork, but with Deore spec crankset, weighed in at 3.5kg. Will see what the Giant weighs.

Ok, Giant frame without fork is 1.58kg, with crankset with pedals it is 2.95kg (damn, those deore's (with spd pedals)are heavy)

Seems like it is an 17inch frame. Too small for me? (1.8m,inseam 81.5)

Established that it is a Medium frame (borderline fit for me, apparantly)Had my inseam measured, 86.5, not 81.5 as I at first thought. Helps to have the right equipment to measure. But should work. Gonna ride it for a while to make sure.

Started with rebuild last night. Cleaned everything nicely in preparation for rebuild. Will have to get a new headset, seatpost and seatpost clamp. Rest looks a shoe-in.

Will post pics as soon as finished, probably towards towards month end.
