So can one of you really clever folk out there answer this Q for me, whenever I take a course of multivits I wake up at night with muscle cramps, and I've been thru a few different types. I started taking multivits because my job is kinda taxing on the body and I dont get to spend a minute in the sun for 28 days.

Certain vitamins will help reduce the chances of leg cramps. These include vitamin E (400 IU a day) which helps dilate blood muscles and thin blood to improve circulation. A lack of some of the B vitamins (100 mg a day) --thiamine (B1), pantothenic acid (B5) and pyridoxine (B6)--have been known to cause cramping. These vitamins break down carbohydrates, fats and proteins to produce energy and aid in circulation. Finally, vitamin A (10,000 IU a day) and vitamin C (3,000 mg a day) are needed to avoid cramps.

Along with vitamins, consider getting more of certain minerals if you are prone to leg cramps. Get enough electrolytes-- magnesium (400 mg a day), potassium (100 mg a day), calcium (1,200 mg a day) and sodium. Magnesium allows calcium and potassium to move in and out of the cells, while calcium improves magnesium absorption.

so while u might be jacked on vits, u might be missing the necessary minerals as well. Just ensure you've had a meal, even if only a snack, before taking the vitamins. Vitamins on empty stomachs are known to cause irritation of the large intestine leading to nausea and stomach cramps.

Hi Capricorn, thanks for all the info, I've taken the Vital multi vits and also the Amway multi and there was one other but I can't remember who the manufacturer was, and the cramps were just calf muscle's. I stick to the 1 a day with breakfast regime.
