Dean, I'm going to Morgans Bay coming week end & want to go through to Mazeppa on the bicycle. Is it best to remain on the coast line or are there points where its better to go inland?

Any good routes from Morgans going down the coast?

Thanks

Hi Ben, I'll post a KML file of our Imana Ride, but it depends on the hight of the tide, At low tide our ride was OK, the only place I'd go inland would be after the Kobonqaba river to Wavecrest.

The ride to Mazeppa may not be too far, but the ride there and back is hectic, especially if you hit the beach sections at high tide, and on a return ride you will be guaranteed to do so, so I would suggest that you stay over and ride back on the low tide.

There are other paths that I know, but I don't want to get you lost.

Edit - Please don't ride where there are signs asking you not to ride, I'm specifically referring to the ride from Morg's to Haga through the farms, they were closed to us at easter, and some of us are working on getting them open again, so any idiots riding there may put these roads in jeopardy again. we've thought of riding from Double Mouth along the coast to the next development (I think it's called Black Rock Resort) and then inland along the resort access road to Haga, I think tat that road is still legit.

How did you manage to cross the Kobonqaba River? I rode there a few times from Trennery's, but could not figure out and obvious route over?

Go and stand near the houses and look to see where it's shallowest, them wade, simple... over the Imana it was open, so we just rode across.

Hi Dean,

Have your track on my GPS, checking the tides & weather...

Weather not been so great thus far. The hassel is also getting back on the same day. Local rides are fine & doing plenty of walks with the family. Nice area...

Will also be joining you guys in Morgans....in 2 days...can't wait.

I'm leaving tomorrow for Kei Mouth!Happy days are finally here!!!

People going there from the Hub keep looking for updates in this post and post your updates about when you are doing a group ride or any ride and want a fellow Hubber to join you!

I will be in the area from 29th to 5th and will have my mtb.

I have never been there and dont know what to expect.

We will be up the river a bit (hopefully with a paddle) at a place called umthombekei lodge.

My brother in law will be there and is training for Attakwas as well.

Keen to join or meet up for a ride or 3.

Thanks. I was there at a different time of year (July). It was flowing strongly and I would have needed to swim (to deep to wade). I cant remember what the tide was doing, but it may have been high tide, which could have been part of the problem ...

Managed to get past Tennery's & onto the beach from Morgans today. Crossing the Kei wasn't ideal (swimming) but going by ferry doesn't feel right! That river dumps a lot of water into the sea & it seems it will never be an easy crossing.

Without Dean's track I wouldn't have found the route though.

Nice 37km return ride. Weather not so great, seems like more rain for tomorrow.

I'm coming down on Sun morning for the ride with friends, th ride starts in Haga, I don't know where, but can't be hard to find, the village is tiny, probably at the tennis courts, or at the hotel, just drive into Haga until you see a bunch of runners and cyclists.
