Been using the Maxxis Ardent 2.25 upfront for some time now and it is a solid front tyre that rolls rather well.

On the back I have had a CM LUST and it has been just ok. I had a Maxxis Advantage 2.1" on the back before and this was a really good back tyre. The rolling resistance on the Advantage is not bad at all.

Prior to this there were a couple of other combo's I had used ...

  • 2.1 Nevegal on the front with 2.1 small block 8 on the back .. not a bad combo
  • 2.1 Advantage all round - you can really lean the bike in the turns and the tyres have good volume and float for a 2.1
  • 2.0 Spesh fast tracks ... nice and fast with good control. would love them in a 2.25 carcass!
  • Then a couple of other set ups too

RE restricting your tyres to 2.1" ... you can comfortably get away with a 2.25" on your front wheel as the fork generally gives good clearance ... on the back it is really frame dependant, but as said before a 2.1" is usually a safe bet ... my new Shova looks like it can take a tractor tyre at the back and then still have clearance!

Using Nobby Nics up front and Rocket ron out back. Also running them tubeless converted. Prefer them to the Maxxis tyres. WAs running Crossmarks up front and Larrsen at the back.

They're really cheap if u buy from Visagie.
