MH: u ride Contermans last weekend?

Cap, I'm sadly way past my days of doing DH, so no Contermans for me thanks (have heard it's really steep and tough) :) These days I just take it easy in Tokai on the XC parts!

One day though, I'm going to splash out on a fully loaded 951 and ride slowly down the hill looking really flash...

Sam's run is also one of those all-time greats. Have to admit though that I prefer Gee's run; obviously he won, but his smoothness impresses me much more than Sam's crazy balls-to-the-wall sketchiness. Nothing wrong with his skill though, he's hardcore.

MH: u reckon Sam was on the ragged edge, and looked the part to boot? hmmm, i must admit i've always considered that run super smooth, considering just how fast he was going. But in general, i totally agree with you and Gee's style of riding: that boy is a very smooch machine. Even his run at Redbull Rampage was darn smooth despite that man laying down some massive hucks.

btw: photos when u go all flash on your 951 :P

Real old school :o . Its seems progress in tech does help sometimes. In this case the suspension systems would have helped these guys hugely

I think just dropping their seat posts would have done wonders!

If you look at some times that the guys can put in at Helderkruin in the hard tail class, they're good enough to place top 10 in the sport class.

DMD: i reckon they needn't go too high tech: most woulda done pretty well with their seats lower. Check all the assslapping they getting. hahahaha..

hahaha Cap... seems we were on the same train of thought

Yeah, I think so. The crash was just the end result of that. But then again, that's Sam's style, so maybe he was just unlucky...

Still have a few back issues somewhere of mags with Francois Gachet, Missy on the Yeti Team, Johnny T on his Raleigh with the black skin suit etc....

I have a poster of Johnny T in that skin suit which he signed for me at Stellenbosch in '97!

Holy crap, I don't think I've laughed so hard this whole year as at those dudes flying the stairs. Doesn't look like any of them pre-rode the course at all, hahahaha! Classic!

(Have to give them credit, many of them were bombing down with completely rigid bikes - stairs are hard when you don't have *any* suspension!)

Stellenbosh was madness  .... mate and I were there for 98, wangled a press pass and wandered around like Billy Bunter in a sweet shop.

One of of our claims to fame was being bounced from the Volvo Cannodale team area by Missy Giove. How were we to know that the catering wasn't for everyone <_< ..... :D

You guys are 100% right, seats on those rigids are way too high, and no one pre rode that course

I have watched that vid many times, and it makes me laugh loudly every time

There's some cool video footage of Missy in her Yeti days, I see if I can find a link.
