So I did the Cape Pioneer on a Prologo Scratch Pro Ti saddle. That thing is very light, but also quite hard. Kind of like sitting on a plank, actually Had me going numb in various undesirable places... :'(

So now I am looking to replace that saddle with something a bit softer. Do a lot of marathon distance riding (>5hrs). Many people seem to recommend the Fizik Gobi. Although I have also read that that saddle is not for people who have wide ass-bones (which I do), since it makes you sit on your perineum if you have a wide ass :(

Would really appreciate some input on this topic. Perhaps specifically from people who do not have a 32 waist line :P Thanks!

Thats the weird thing about saddles, i had the soft gel saddles hated them moved to a fizik gobi, which is hard as a rock and never been more confortable.

Thanks for the input... You do many long rides (like longer than 4 or 5 hours)? How do you feel after such a ride? How do your balls feel? (sorry - just want to get an idea of whether the thing makes you sit on the wrong bits)... :P

Lastly: would you say you have narrow ass-bones? Like I said in my post, apparently the Gobi only works well for people whose bones are not too far apart ;)

(sheesh - sounds like a rude post, this )

Only getting into the long ride thing now, found that if my saddle is tilted up or down it damages the goonies, If its level not so much, But i think a lot has to do with saddle design, the sad thing is the only way your ever going to be sure is to buy saddles till you get one that works for you.

I don't have a 32 waistline... :)

I will only ever buy a Brooks...

Check out their website - you will find XC types - and do a search for Brooks on the Hub.

Be advised though - I am seriously biased! :P

I have seen some LBS with a gell padded sit bone measurepad (I am not sure what the actual name is), but they can accurately measure your sit bones and recommend the best saddle for your skeletal construction. It looks something like this:

Like covie says, softer doesn't always mean more comfortable. I know the new specialized concept stores have the "ass-o-meter" thing also try some fritz pienaar shops. At the concept stores they actually allow you to make a deposit via credit card and take a loan saddle for a while to make sure it agrees with you.

For what it is worth, the specialized phenom 143 works great for me.
