on 2nd thought: i dont think i've seen any brake system from any manufacturer in recent memory that states you a locked down to a certain type of pad only. The disc is made of steel, so unless the type of pad is in some random and diabolically twisted way figured into the heat dissipating properties of the brake caliper, i dont see why any brake would ever need to lock the user down to a specific type of brake pad.

sorry..i think i have the wrong disc..but my disc says "resin pads only" now is that just a marketing thing to get the user to pay forking R290 for resin pads..so u rate i can use any pads??

ja but on the disc it says "resin pads only" but fook that .. coz resin pads not so lekka..looking for pads that will give me more stopping power.

resins have more bite, but wear faster and not so lekker in the wet. Sintered metal pads wear better, with slightly lower bite. I've only ever used sintered metal pads. Going to venture into the dual material pads: a monstly sintered metal pad but with a region of organic material in there somewhere. Avid pads in case you wondering.

Here's the deal how I understand it:

Resin pads:

Best stopping power

Poor lifespan

Absolutely crap in wet weather. I've heard they sometimes only last 30km.

Good for DH, because the heat generated through friction does not travel through the pad (its a good isolator), thus it does not "boil" the hydraulic oil. If you use sintehered ot metal pads for DH, there is a chance of your brake fluid "boiling", and when that happens, you have NO stopping power at all.

Sinthered pads:

Good all rounder

Doesn't wear too fast in wet weather

Not suited for DH becuase of above reason

Metal pads

Least stopping power

Best wear life

Not affected by water at all

No suited for DH because of reason above

That's how I understand it. The disc won't get damaged with either one

Prehaps the pads have 'glazed' over? Roughen down with a light grade sandpaper and have a few hard stops and they may feel better.

i think some soap or something got in there...so today i was just riding in my yard and doing stoppies the whole afternoon and seems to be helping .. the power is starting to come back..

ok just washed my bike and rode around with the wet calipers and i did a few wet stops and i seams to have cleand the pads and nw its stopping like it was.
