Gearing on Road Bike

I am looking for ideas with respect to gearing on a road bike... (compact crank isn't an option)

I have a 9sp 105 raleigh RC4500 from a time gone past... I would like to look at a 11-28'ish type... would a SRAM PG950 be compatible or perhaps an XT/LX/Deore MTB cassette?

9 speed Sram or Shimano should work. Just keep in mind that the 105 rear derailer has a short cage so you can't go too big at the back. May also need to get a longer chain.

hi a SLX 11 X 28 cassette should work fine on your set up . i m using it on a SCOTT with 105 setup
