Hi All

I was wondering if any of could give some advise on this, I have a Black BMX Helmet that I want spray painted, The only thing that I am wondering about is how well the paint will stick to the plastic?

Interesting one. First off I think you'd have to give the entire helmet a light sanding to take off whatever finish is on there as well as give the new paint something to stick to. You'd then have to probably use an undercoat of some kind, which may be a problem since most undercoats (that I know of ) use solvents as their base which might melt the plastic. Then you could spray it with a rattelcan maybe. I very much doubt you going to get any type of finish that is long lasting.

I actually don't think it can be done? Interesting to see the results so post some pics ok. Good luck!

I think whoever does it, will sand it down as EigerSA has said, but then you use a type of primar (similiar to what they use on plastic bumpers) which allows the new paint to "stick"... definetly can be done, not sure who could do it thou...

the high density foam is contained within an outershell made of composite, or plastic depending on the helmet. A light sanding, some suitable primer, and you good to go with spraypainting. Google it. I'm sure it's been done before, and some of hte amateur work out there is staggeringly good.
