I've also noticed this, got back into cycling after a long lay off and the first thing I noticed was the poor service at the bike shops, its not a cheap sport it seems that unless you're spending R50K+ on a new bike they're doing you a favor, its a competitive industry and given the current economic conditions I battle to understand it. I've given up ordering stuff from the LBS, out of probably 10 times I was called back once and this is from at least 3 different LBS's.

Its sad but this is why international on-line retailers like CRC are thriving.

On the other hand you also get the guy who clearly cannot afford the bike (and you know this cause he comes 3 times a week) but stands and chats about the bike and the bling and the options and the benefits and the weights and all the pros and cons and and and and and never buys the damn thing whilst there are other customers who need help.

Difficult one to handle cause you actually get a lot of these guys.

Maybe there was a conspiracy amongst the old guys on how to snare the customers....biggrin.gifbiggrin.gifbiggrin.gif

 - Maybe.!

...But its my opinion the bigger local retailers copy each other shamelessly,...... and they all copy the USA - the market leaders in retail.

Yeah, Tirekickers,.... but thats in any retail business. My mates got a car dealership and its the exact same thing, the same fella will come in almost daily and "Shoot the Bull" about this and that and the other thing - but will never commit to sitting down and arranging finance. Always got an excuse.

However an astute retailer on top of his game should be able to tell the "tirekickers" from the "genuine buyers" and spend his time accordingly.

Place your order at CRC...... and buy some extra tools etc so you can work on your bike yourself.

I've done it. I am not regretting it at all.
